Pupils to target
Students who often benefit most from TakeTen, are those for whom self-regulation is a problem. This includes students who have special educational needs including Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia or other learning difficulties. Students with learning difficulties often feel marginalised and different from others in their peer groups. The anxiety related to their learning difficulties can be further compounded by the anxiety of trying to ‘fit in’ or of being judged by others.
It is important that young people with special educational needs are supported to learn how to change their response to stress and stressful situations. TakeTen has shown very positive benefits for children with special needs and learning difficulties. The visual element of the solution works very well, particularly for children with Autism and ADHD.
Background information
Children and young people face many different pressures and strains in today’s society, which can affect their ability to flourish in school and in life.
Social media, exam pressures, transition to a new school or adapting to a new culture, can often make young people feel stressed and anxious.
Peer pressure, difficulties in family life, living with Autism, Dyslexia or other learning difficulties can result in young people arriving into school feeling upset, worried and unable to focus on their school work or interact with others.
Academic attainment is best achieved in a supportive and positive environment that values social and emotional learning and the overall wellbeing of the student. School life is not always about learning facts and figures, it’s also about learning life skills to improve and develop as a human being.
Research shows that those who develop strong social and emotional skills in childhood and adolescence are more likely to go on to live healthier and happier adult lives. When children and young people are given adequate support and tools to manage anxiety and stress, they can improve their performance in school and in life.
Building mental and emotional resilience helps students over time to develop strategies and competencies to cope with the challenges they will undoubtedly face in life.
Using Take Ten as a solution
Education TakeTen provides schools with a solution to create a nurturing environment for the happiness of students, so that they can learn, develop and reach their goals.
TakeTen is a stress control application. It uses biofeedback to help young people better understand their own body’s reaction to anxiety and stress. It improves emotional awareness and more importantly, helps the user to manage anxiety and emotions allowing them to carry on with their day.
TakeTen is regarded as the ‘go to’ solution in 230 schools in the UK. Teachers report it as a positive use of technology to support the learning process, helping students to get into the right zone for learning.
TakeTen iPad App
The iPad application monitors heart rate variability through the use of a soft ear clip, communicating the young person’s level of stress and anxiety on screen.
By engaging in a choice of interactive games or meditations, the young person manages their breathing and mindset to move from anxiety to calm with instant onscreen feedback. The app supports young people to train their mind and body to work together, to regulate their emotions and physiology.
TakeTen is used by students of all ages and abilities enabling them to ‘Learn Happy’. It can be used individually during time-out periods, or teacher led to the entire class.
