Many researchers over recent years, have concluded that pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs bear the greatest disadvantage of all. If not addressed, these pupils will carry this disadvantage with them throughout life regardless of wealth or social mobility. SEMH difficulties can hinder a child's ability to access education and result in their present and future opportunities being significantly reduced.
So, what can we do to have a proactive impact that’s focused on unpicking these behaviours and promoting early intervention. Introducing the SEMH Tracker where we can identify pupils with SEMH needs and drill down to find which barriers they need support with and what sort of interventions may be appropriate. Each pupil can be effectively tracked, monitored and scored on their SEMH target areas on a termly basis to show progress.
If you don't have access to your academy SEMH tracker and feel you should have then please ask your SENCO.
Each academy is provided with their own SEMH Tracker via the OGAT Data Team. Here are their instructions on how to use the tool including how to add pupils and completing the assessment sheets. It also explains the general functions of the Tracker including which cells to populate.
An overview of the SEMH tracker works and how it should be used to: assess the SEMH needs of pupils, liaise with appropriate staff, select appropriate targets and using this information to inform appropriate interventions.
