Imagery is used when a person imagines or visualises themself completing a skill. This is a useful principle as it has shown to increase performance execution through the athlete visualising themself completing and executing the skill successfully.
Self talk is that positive bird on your shoulder that tells you to "keep going". The idea of self talk is to use positive messages to continue pushing through to complete your skill. Sometimes this can end up being negative as well when you tell yourself you "cant perform a skill" or "I am going to miss".
Goal setting is another psychological principle that is used for people to set realistic goals to achieve with their skill and performance. Ensure that the skill is specific, can be measured, is achievable and has a time frame to work within.
