This is where the transport vehicle is parked. In the event that our spot is taken, any non ADA or reserved spot by Waldo is okay to park in for the night!
All of the other vehicles will be parked in the Old Field Lot.
It is the responsibility of all staff in the vehicle to maintain the cleanliness of vehicles during the entirety of their shift. If you notice any kind of mechanical issues or exterior/interior damage, make sure you are notifying the SafeRide Coordinator and the Facilitators through the Check In/Out form or IR form. Be specific with the location and the issue. If you believe that the issue could pose as a safety concern for nightly operations, notify the Nightly Operations Leader and they will assess the situation.
Locking Doors
Safety, one of our four core values, is in the name of ASOSU SafeRide. Following safe practices is as crucial for our employees as it is for our passengers. Keeping the ASOSU SafeRide vehicles safe and secure is a priority at all times.
Make sure all vehicle doors are closed and locked before going into motion and before stopping at a pick-up location.
Verify the person requesting the ride by talking to them through the open window.
"Where are you going?"
"What is your name?"
"How many people?"
Once the person has been verified, unlock the doors and let them in. Re-lock the doors before proceeding.
Make sure to lock the vehicle when it is not attended. Even if it is only going to be a few minutes.
Always be aware of your surroundings.
Posted speed limits must be followed at all times. All ASOSU SafeRide vehicles, as state owned large-capacity vans, must not exceed a speed of 55 mph. This is both the law, as well as a requirement for safe use of the vehicle topper. In adverse weather conditions, decrease speed and increase follow distances.
When driving one of our SafeRide vehicles it is very important that you are watching all around you, especially when you are backing up. It can be hard to see at night and the 12 passenger vans do not allow for good visibility while backing up and accidents can easily happen if you aren't careful.
Because of this, SafeRide employees are required to use a spotter whenever they back up a vehicle, even a sedan. The navigator is to get out of the vehicle and physically spot the driver while they are backing up.
To reiterate, this policy applies to all vehicles even sedans or mini-vans. Even if you have a backup camera in the vehicle, the navigator must get out and help the driver back up. This comes into play in the parking lot when checking vehicles out for the night, but you may need to use this frequently during shifts.
If a vehicle is in an accident because the driver/navigator team didn't have someone get out and spot, both team members will receive consequences.
