Below is some information regarding how to use Mojo--our primary nightly operations mobility van. Common questions should be answered in this page, and if you have any further inquiry's please contact your Nightly Operations Leader or write an Incident Report Form.
Step 1: Park
Line up the van with a level part of the road.
Step 2: Get Equipment
Go to the back of the van, open the back door, and then open the compartment on the right.
Pull out the 4 clips (noted as keepers/tiedowns in the instructions).
Bring the clips to the side of the van.
Step 3: Set up Clips
Place 2 clips in the front and 2 clips in the back.
The clip with the seat belt attachment needs to go in the back. Otherwise, the other three clips are the same.
Once the clips are installed, push them to the side so they do not get in the rider’s way.
Step 4: Ramp
Pull the ramp out and place it on the ground.
If you do not pull it fast enough the side guard rail may not deploy. If this occurs, push the ramp back in and try again.
It is important the guard rail is fully upright to give the rider enough space to get in.
Here is a video that shows the ramp coming out and being put back in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbF8faAsCLc
Step 5: Rider Enters Van
Have any other riders enter the van first and then have the wheelchair user enter last. This just helps make sure no one feels they have to bump into anyone while getting into the van.
After the wheelchair rider enter the van, put the ramp back in.
Step 6: Secure the Rider
Next we need to make sure the hook end of the clips are secured to the wheelchair.
Each wheelchair is different, so if you cannot see an obvious place to secure the clip, ask the rider where would be best.
The general idea is to hook the front two by the foot pedal area and the back to by the wheel spoke area.
After the hooks are placed, tighten the slack so the wheelchair cannot move while the van is in motion.
Step 7: Seat Belt
Last step is to make sure the rider gets the seat belt buckled. You can reach over to pull it towards them but they can buckle on their own or you can ask if they need any further assistance.
You are now ready to drive the rider to their drop off.
Go to the Mojo Drop off Instructions to use when you are at the rider’s final destination.
Step 1: Unbuckle
Have the rider unbuckle.
Step 2: Take off Clips
Loosen the clips and take the hooks off of the wheelchair.
Scoot the clips to the side so they are out of the rider’s way.
Step 3: Rider Leaves
Take out the ramp and have the rider exit.
Wish them a good night and thank them for using SafeRide.
Step 4: Pack Up Equipment
Put the ramp back inside the van.
Unfasten the clips from the ground of the van.
Collect the clips and return them to the compartment in the back of the van.
That is it, you are good to go on to your next pick up or drop off!
