As an ASOSU SafeRide Employee, you have the right to refuse service at your own discretion. If you feel that a situation is unsafe for riders and/or employees, call DPS or CPD to get assistance in deescalating the situation.
If you refuse service, radio the Nightly Operations Leader as soon as you are able to notify them of what is happening and complete an incident report form.
Offer the rider other transportation options. In Corvallis there is the Corvallis Transit (the bus), Taxis, Uber, Lyft, and DPS.
Many other emergency procedures call for refusal of service, if this is the case, those specific procedures indicate that you can do so.
The following are additional reasons we can refuse service:
For a Rider Refusing to Wear a Seat Belt:
Riders are required to wear a Seat Belt. If a rider refuses to put on a seat belt, we can refuse service.
Remember that it is illegal as a driver to have passengers in your vehicle who aren't wearing a seat belt.
For Riders with Children:
Unfortunately, there is a policy that children cannot be transported in a Motor Pool vehicle. We also do not have the proper equipment (such as car seats) to safely transport babies/toddlers/young children.
If a rider is upset about this policy, please get their ONID username for the incident report or encourage them to reach out to the ASOSU SafeRide Coordinator at saferide@oregonstate.edu
For Drop Off At a Commercial Location or Drop off Outside of the Boundary:
Unfortunately, we cannot drop riders off at commercial locations. We also have a boundary line to keep our service in spaces that allow for good cell service to the Via app and radio signal.
If a ride shows the drop off as a commercial location, cancel the ride and select the reason that fits this situation.
If a rider asks after getting into the vehicle to be dropped off at a commercial location or for the vehicle to go beyond the boundary, politely decline stating that it goes against the policies of the service.
