Several vehicles have a bike rack attached to the hitch reciever and can hold up to two bikes at a time. It is important that as employee's you ensure that the bike has been safely secured before driving. Riders secure their own bike(s) so you do not have to touch the bike. You may assist riders by teaching them how to use the bike rack verbally and lifting the bike onto the rack. At the bottom of the page you can find a video detailing how to use the bike rack.
The image depicted below is what the bike rack should look like when it is not in use--the hook should be laid out in this manner. Never have the hooks folded out!
Step 1: Fold out the hooks
Tell the rider to fold out the hook of the bike rack so that it is open for use. This maneuver will have some tension from the hook, however it will not be too difficult to open.
Step 2: Extend the Hook
Tell the rider to extend the hook of the bike rack fully so that it is long enough to place over the front wheel of the tire. There will be a button the rider will need to press in order to complete this maneuver.
Step 3: Adjust the Straps
Unbuckle the strap and adjust the block tire divot for the back bike tire.
Step 4: Put the bike on the rack
The front and back wheels of the bike should rest in the divots of the bike rack. If the back tire is on top of the back tire strap, ask the rider to adjust the strap so it may be useful in securing the tire.
Step 5: Push the hook over the wheels
Instruct the rider to fold the hook towards the bike and over the front wheel. In this maneuver, there will be a button to press in order for the hook to fold.
Step 6: Push the Hook down to hold the bike
Instruct the rider to push the hook down so that it secures the front tire of the bike. Watch the rider to ensure that it is secured tightly enough to not fall off when driving.
Step 7: Use the straps to secure back tire
Instruct the rider to move the strap around the bottom of the tire and secure it in place with the buckle. Watch the rider and ensure that this is done tightly and that it will not move during the ride.
