This is when a driver/navigator feel unsafe in the vehicle but do not feel comfortable saying anything in front of their riders, due to their safety being in danger. The following is the script that must be used during these situations, word for word.
This phrase is only to be used in serious emergency situations where other safety protocol cannot be executed. Using this phrase means that the Nightly Operations Leader will alert the police, so know that using this phrase means you are stating you need the police to your vehicle immediately.
Step 1: Alert
Radio the Nightly Operations Leader this phrase:
“Vehicle # to Leader, is Vehicle 10 on tonight?”
Since we do not have 10 vehicles, this is the cue to the Leader that you need police assistance.
Step 2: Response
The Leader will respond the following:
“Yes, vehicle #, we have vehicle 10 on tonight.”
Step 3: Help Arrives
Continue service as smoothly as possible.
If it would be unsafe to continue service, pull over to the nearest safe location, turn off the vehicle, take the keys, and exit the vehicle.
Encourage any other riders that could be impacted to exit as well.
Police help will arrive as soon as possible!
Step 4: Continue Service
Hopefully the police are able to help diffuse the situation.
Once it is safe, you can continue service to take any riders who still need a ride home.
Step 5: Incident Report
The last step is either the Driver or the Navigator needs to complete an incident report form. The link is below.
If there are so many details that it would be difficult to write the report on the iPad, report back to the SafeRide office to write the IR on the computer.
