Spatial Awareness with Mr. Potato Head
Problem Solving with puzzles
Playing at the farm
Can you create a bridge?
Egg experiment
What happens to an egg when it is put in vinegar? The dragon flies are documenting the changes that happen in an egg when it is contained in vinegar for a week. We have noticed that the egg has got a lot bigger during the week. The white egg is starting to be clear. We will have to wait until monday to see the final result!

Finding Similarities and Differences in between stories
Each retelling increases the children's familiarity with the story and offers more opportunities for their participation during the experience. These retellings also help children build frameworks, characters, and vocabulary to use when they create their own stories. Young children enjoy and learn from a story told.
After reading the story of The Three Little Pigs, we cut and paste the pictures in the correct order and then retold the story based on the pictures.
We have read several versions of The Three Little Pigs and looked at the similarities and differences that we noticed in the stories.
Something is symmetrical when it is the same on both sides. A shape has symmetry if a central dividing line (a mirror line) can be drawn on it, to show that both sides of the shape are exactly the same.
Our "BIG IDEAS" this week in French class:
*Kindness - la gentillesse, I like - "J'aime"
*Sight Words: J'aime (I like) , mon & ma (mine)
*Letter Jj: pronounced /zhee/ - similar to jhee . Action: pretend to juggle balls in the air
* Symmetry
Learning through play this week:
ART: make a turtle or pig using modeling clay (great for fine motor strength)
SMALL WORLD: puzzle city with cars and small community members
MATH: measurement with weight, comparing heavier and lighter objects
MATH: using miras for symmetry
LITERACY: make your own story
DRAMATIC PLAY: Les Trois Petits Cochons (The 3 Little Pigs)
Our "BIG IDEAS" this week in French class:
*Kindness - la gentillesse, I like - "J'aime"
*Sight Words: J'aime (I like) , mon & ma (mine)
*Letter Bb: pronounced /beh/ - similar to 'bay'. Action: pretend to swing a baseball bat to hit a ball
* Measurement: weight (poids) and capacity (capacité)
Learning through play this week:
ART: watercolour pig art and making pig and wolf crowns
FINE MOTOR CONTROL: miniature game of curling (we learned some of the rules of curling and got to play the game)
FINE MOTOR & STEM: making snowball jumpers using balloons, styrofoam cups and pompoms
MATH: measurement
Sensory Bin: experimenting with capacity using different containers to measure with
Weight: using scales to see what objects are heavier (plus lourd) and which are lighter (léger)
LITERACY: Je remplis un seau quand je..... & La gentillese... (writing about what kindness looks like)
DRAMATIC PLAY: Les Trois Petits Cochons (The 3 Little Pigs)
Our Dragonflies were given a capacity challenge. Out of the 3 cups below, which would I choose if I was very thirsty?
We know that we wouldn't choose the red cup because it is the smallest. We discovered that even though the green cup is taller it doesn't hold as much water as the red one because the red one is wider. The red cup holds the most water! Rouge contient plus l'eau!
We then recorded our observations in our journals.
The letter Bb is pronounced /beh/ - similar to 'bay'. Our action is to pretend to swing a baseball bat to hit a ball like you're playing baseball!

We have started reading the story of The Three Little Pigs and have been working towards identifying our favourite parts of the story (ma partie préférée), who the characters are (les personnages), and getting familiar with the order of the events (les événements) in the story, or story sequencing. We will continue to explore the story of the 3 little pigs in the coming weeks.
We have also started reading a short book about the word J'aime. We are working on using the picture as clues to support our reading and identifying the first letter in different words to help with our reading comprehension.
We are learning a new poem to help us practice the word J'aime and connect this word to our daily lives. What is something that you like (J'aime)?
