Exploring merry loose parts!
This week we spent more time discussing shapes. We connected dots to make irregular shapes and talked about what we noticed about them.
We had a fun directed-drawing activity this week.
The little elves are hard at work in Santa's workshop!
We made holiday cards and learned how to write: "Happy Holidays, and Merry Christmas"
I've been using the phrase: "Say it slow like a turtle" when we practice listening for sounds in words. I say a word quickly like "pin", and the students say it slow like a turtle, and try to identify the first sound, and sometimes we also do the last sound.
Labelling drawings is a good place for beginners to start writing.
We're learning to look at shapes. What do we notice? What makes a triangle a triangle? Students are invited to explore and share their thinking. Can you find shapes around the room? In your toys?
We learned about Hanukkah and talked about how we celebrate at home with our own families. We did a "Write the Room" activity with words related to Hanukkah.
We also read A Squiggly Story and learned about labelling our pictures.
