We don't have as many pictures as usual, since we've had a guest teacher in for a few weeks. Ms Sydney has been following our program for literacy and math and is also including lots of great creative activities for the students. Thank you Ms Sydney!
Here is an update from her:
This week the Dragonflies and I had a fun time learning about the letter Z and relating it to the Zoo. We learned all about the zoo and what types of animals live there, from Zebras to Hippos to Lions. We also explored data management by graphing our favorite foods and counting the leaves on tulips. Students worked independently to count and graph all sorts of mythical creatures. They also had a blast in their centers building gardens and different types of flowers. We finished the week off by learning about our brains and how different people have different ways of thinking and learning, which makes us all unique and special.
We read Alligator Baby by Robert Munsch this week and talked about the zoo. The students also had a chance to build their own zoo, we built our own zoos with our Makerspace area. We also examined a lot of graphs and determined some information we could pull from them. We learned which foods we prefer, between hot dogs, pizza and burgers. There was a tie between pizza and hot dogs. We also had a lot of fun coming up with words that began with a Z and practicing writing them. We also changed our outdoor play location from the nature center to the grass area and students got a chance to play on the dinosaurs and practice their soccer skills!

Day 2
Day 3
Day 4
I purchased this kit from JCB Mushrooms last week, and we started our inquiry on Monday. The students have been so interested in what has been growing!
I didn't tell the students what the item was. We figured out day one that it was definitely a plant, since the plastic bag was full of damp soil.
We learned about being scientists - making observations and asking questions. We looked, felt, and even smelled, and described what we thought. We asked - what does this remind me of?
Many students thought it seemed like "coral", so for the next few days we learned about coral reefs and made comparisons. Eventually we decided that if our plant was coral, it wouldn't survive outside of the ocean. We also learned that coral reefs are not plants, but actually animals! We watched a video of a pink coral and saw it moving around.
This coming week, we will begin to learn about mushrooms.
We played with heart shaped gems in the nature centre
We did our letter practice, for the letters "L" and "B", and finished up measurement. We also did lots of other fun activities this week.
We took out the parachute for the first time!
