As we started to wrap up our 3D shapes unit, we read a few stories about 3D shapes and discussed what we saw. We read a story about a robot who fell off a wall like Humpty Dumpty. He fell apart, and was made of different 3D shapes. Some children in the story put him back together again. As a follow up activity, the students made their own 3D-shape robot, consolidating their learning on the names, attributes (2D faces, some parts are flat and some are round or curved) and properties (which stack well and why, which roll and why) of the shapes.
Despite the chilly weather, our classroom was nice and warm and we had a lot of fun activities this week as we got back into the swing of things!
Here is a poem we read together several times in the past few weeks:
3D Shapes are fat not flat
A Cone is like a party hat
A Sphere is like a bouncy ball
A Prism like a building tall
A Cylinder’s a can of pop
A Cube is like a dice you drop
3D Shapes are here and there
3D Shapes are everywhere
In gym class, we learned a new game called 'Garbage Ball'. The students really loved it, and we'll be sure to play it again!
We had a very short week this week! We spent much of this week getting used to the routines and our friends again. On Tuesday we read "Tally Cat Keeps Track" and had a mini lesson on tally marks, then the students had surveys and asked all their peers questions to gather the data.
We also reviewed our 3D shapes this week.
Mrs Risa opened a Veterinary Clinic in our dramatic play centre, which the children are really enjoying.
