NKY Health understands that an employee may use social media on her/his own time, and outside of work hours. Accordingly, NKY Health has certain expectations for such use as it relates to NKY Health, its programs, offerings, and services.

6.16.1 Expectation for Social Media Activities

An employee who uses social media and identifies herself/himself as an NKY Health employee must clearly state that the views expressed are her/his own and not those of NKY Health nor of any person or organization affiliated or doing business with NKY Health. She/he must also ensure that the content she/he posts complies with the employee standards of conduct (see section 6.)

6.16.2 Prohibited Social Media Activities

An employee must not:

  1. Use NKY Health’s time to conduct social media activities not previously approved

  2. Use NKY Health e-mail addresses on personal social networking profiles

  3. Use social media to harass, threaten, abuse, discriminate against or disparage NKY Health, its employees, or persons or entities associated therewith

  4. Sell NKY Health products, services, or promotional items from a personal site

  5. Make any knowingly false statements about NKY Health, its associates, or its clients

  6. Violate any laws, including but not limited to privacy protection laws

6.16.3 NKY Health Messaging through Personal Social Media

NKY Health understands that there may be occasions where it is to the mutual benefit of the agency and the employee to disseminate public health information or messages via personal social media. In that event, employees will be advised when they may share via their personal media, messages generated by the Health Department’s official social media sites.

Unless authorized by the District Director of Health and/or her/his designee, an employee must not post the following on personal social media:

  1. NKY Health-privileged and/or confidential information or information intended for internal use only

  2. NKY Health-issued correspondence and/or document originals or copies

  3. Photographs of other NKY Health employees, clients, vendors or suppliers obtained through work, engaged in NKY Health business or attending NKY Health-sponsored events without the written consent of all those individually identifiable in the photo/video

  4. False, inaccurate, and/or misleading information about NKY Health, its services, any business affiliated with NKY Health, and/or any NKY Health-sponsored event

  5. Any posting related to NKY Health that would be inappropriate or unacceptable in NKY Health’s workplace, including but not limited to language containing ethnic slurs, discriminatory remarks, personal insults, or obscenity
