An employee may be categorized as any of the following:

  1. Introductory Merit System

  2. Regular Merit System

  3. Contract

  4. Temporary

  5. Appointed

2.2.1 Introductory Merit System Employee

An introductory merit system employee is an at-will employee, assigned to a merit system position, who has not yet completed her/his introductory period (see section 2.9.)

2.2.2 Regular Merit System Employee

A regular merit system employee is an employee who has satisfactorily completed her/his introductory period and is assigned to a merit system position.

2.2.3 Contract Employee

A contract employee is an at-will employee who must work less than 100 hours per month and whose terms of employment are subject to examination and renewal within a period of time specified in a written agreement.

2.2.4 Temporary Employee

A temporary employee is an at-will employee appointed to a special assignment or for a specific time frame. The appointment for a non-merit system employee must not exceed six (6) months in any calendar or fiscal year.

2.2.5 Appointed Employee

An appointed employee is an employee who has been placed in a position at the will of the District Board of Health. Typically the terms of an appointment are governed by a written agreement, portions of which may be in conflict with certain Personnel Policies and therefore supersede said policies.
