There has been a huge emphasis in our Brain Bites Interviews in taking advantage of internships and shadowing opportunities. Knowing what to expect and if you are truly interested in certain professional fields is important to avoid wasting valuable time and money (in addition to exploring options you didn't know may exist for your field!).
Reaching out to local hospitals and clinics is a great way to get started on job shadowing, interning, or volunteering.
Volunteer! Whether you help with the exact profession you're interested in or not, volunteering will open your eyes to different experiences, help with networking, and understand how the system works!
"I think job shadowing is a great way to see if a job is the right one for you. It shows the person following how an actual day in the job goes. One reason I decided to go into nursing was from working under nurses. I've seen different aspects of nursing and it fascinates me. Additionally, I want to be able to help patients to a greater extent than I am currently able to. I'd be interested in possibly shadowing a nurse in a hospital setting in the future to show me more sides to the profession." -Ashley Hammer (Anatomy & Physiology student)
