Plastic surgeons work on people's skin. They can do cosmetic surgeries or reconstructive surgeries, often involving skin grafts* for patients who have certain defects after a birth, a disease, or injury.
In order to become a cosmetic surgeon, you must complete a bachelors degree, a doctorate of medicine or a doctor of osteology degree, and about a six year residency. Despite many years of school, this occupation makes around $337,949 a year.
*Skin grafts are where unaffected skin is removed and used to help recover a severe wound such as a severe burn or cancer.

If you are interested in a career working with the Integumentary system, but don't want to work in nursing or as a doctor, you can become a cosmetologist/esthetician. In a recent study, scientists began teaching cosmetologists how to recognize potentially harmful moles and skin lesions. The study showed that the cosmetologists who were educated about the integumentary system, were more likely to spot potentially harmful moles, talk to patients about sun safety, and get the patients referred to a dermatologist (Fischbach, 2021).
