Where Will Life Take You?
Anatomy and Physiology courses are taken by students for several different career paths. These career paths may include but not limited to:
Physical Therapy
Physical therapists help injured or ill people improve movement and manage pain.
Physical Therapists typically need a bachler's degree. The program takes about 3 years to complete.
Health Information Technology
Review and organize medical records while checking for accuracy.
Entry-level health information technology jobs require a postsecondary certificate or associate degree.
Dental Assistant
Dental assistants set up and arrange the equipment that dentists will need to treat a patient. Patient care, record-keeping, and appointment scheduling are just a few of the various duties that dental assistants perform. Depending on the state and the dentist's office they work at, their responsibilities change.
Dental assistants typically need a certificate/diploma. In some circumstances you can do on the job training.
Dental Hygiene
Clean teeth and teach patients how to keep teeth healthy.
Dental hygienists typically need an associate's degree in dental hygiene. Programs typically take 3 years to complete. All states require dental hygienists to be licensed; requirements vary by state.
Surgeon
A surgeon is a doctor who specializes in evaluating and treating conditions that may require surgery, or physically changing the human body. Surgeries can be done to diagnose or treat disease or injury. In the operating room, surgeons lead a team of other doctors and nurses to make sure that a procedure goes smoothly.
Surgeons typically need an undergraduate degree in pre-med. They then need to pass the MCAT. Medical school is the next step which is 4 years. Finally, they need to choose which path they want to go down and do a surgical residency on that path. To become a surgeon it takes about 13 years.
Sonography (Ultrasound)
Uses imaging equipment and soundwaves to produce diagnostic images/data, scans, videos, etc.
Most schools offer either an associate's degree program that can be completed in as little as 2 years. Some schools will also offer a 4-year bachelor's degree or even a 1-year certificate program.
Nursing
Provide patient care, communicate with other health care providers, administer medications, and complete medical evaluations. Become an advocate for the people you take care of.
The minimal qualifications needed to become a practical nurse (LPN) diploma. You are required to sit for four practical boards.
Registered nurse (RN) is an associate degree (ADN/ASN) This is a two year degree and is transferable to 4 year college to obtain your (BSN)
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
For all of the nursing degrees you will have to pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for the program of study you have completed.
Medical Lab Tech
Collect samples of body fluids or tissues and perform tests to analyze them for possible disease.
Clinical laboratory technologists typically need a bachelor’s degree. Technicians usually need an associate’s degree or a postsecondary certificate. Some states require technologists and technicians to be licensed.
Personal Trainer
Teach, motivate and create workout plans for clients.
Fitness trainers and instructors typically need a high school diploma to enter the occupation. Employers may prefer to hire fitness workers, particularly personal trainers, who have an associate's or bachelor's degree in a field such as recreation and fitness or healthcare and related studies.
Massage Therapist
Massage the soft tissue to relieve tension and work with the muscle resulting in general wellness.
Massage therapists who want to practice in Iowa must first have a massage therapy license issued by the Iowa Board of Massage Therapy.
MRI Tech
Take images using the MRI machine to detect problems in the body.
To become an MRI technologist, students can begin by earning an associate's degree or a bachelor's degree in radiography or radiologic sciences accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
Speech Pathology
Create treatment plans for patients who have a speech or voice disorder.
After successfully completing a master's degree, passing the Praxis exam, and completing your clinical fellowship, you'll apply for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP). This certification is required to work in the field.
Radiologic Technology
Performs x-rays for a radiologist to diagnose patients.
An associate's degree is the education typically required for radiologic and MRI technologists.
Respiratory Therapy
Treats patients suffering from breathing or lung issues.
Students must have completed at least an associates degree to qualify for licensure.
Orthopedic surgeon
Diagnoses problems in muscles, bones, and joints and treats them surgically and non surgically.
Orthopedic surgeons must obtain a bachelor's degree, a 4-year medical degree and complete a 5-year graduate medical residency.

Radiologist will need to complete an undergraduate degree, followed up by four years of medical school, a one year internship, and lastly four years of training in diagnostic radiology.
