What is physiology? 

• Physiology explains the functions of life or living matter like organs, tissues and cells.

• Physiology is subdivided into several small groups like neurophysiology, cardiovascular physiology, pathophysiology, and respiratory physiology.

Physiology Subdivisions:

• Cardiovascular Physiology- Examines the functioning of the heart, blood vessels, and the blood

• Neurophysiology- Examines how nerve impulses are propagated throughout the nervous system

• Respiratory Physiology- Examines how respiratory gases are transferred by gas exchange between lungs and blood vessels

• Reproductive Physiology- Examines how the regulation of reproductive hormones can drive the reproductive cycle and influence sex cell production and maturation

• Pathophysiology- Examines the relationship between a functioning organ system and disease or injury to that organ system
