It has been a busy few days for the F1 and F2 children as they finish their learning by writing their letters to the year 1 teachers. They wrote about what they were looking forward to to and what they were excited about.
In Maths they have been busy recapping 3D shapes and their properties.
This is such an exciting time of year for our children as they get ready to transition to their next year group. For our F2 children that means they are off to 'Big School' and F1's are super lucky as they get to stay and move to the very exciting F2 classes.
This topic is all about looking at the changes that have taken place since birth and getting them ready for more exciting changing and growing up.
On the 28th May we will be holding an Ifta for all parents and children. We would love to see you there.
This weeks Tale was the Ginger Bread Man. the children have had a fantastic time baking and creating their own Ginger Bread Men. F2 have even had a go at writing their own version.
This week our Fairy Tale Topic has continues and all of the children have been super busy learning all of the different stories. The focus this week was Goldilocks and the 3 Bears. F1 have been learning all about size by ordering the 3 Bears chair's, while F2 have been solving problems and trying to make a bed big enough for Daddy Bear.
The children have had an extremely busy week this week. For some children they have taken part in a Ballet Show, End of Year Show, Quran Celebrations and started their new topic Fairy Tales.

This week the children have continued their learning on Dinosaurs. Take a look at the photos to see what each class have been doing.
They have been busy rehearsing their end of year show and are very excited for the parents to see it next week.

Please note that parent teacher consultations will take place on Monday 22nd April. These are short meetings where we will discuss any concerns you may have. You are not required to attend but if you would like a meeting please contact your child's class teacher.
Make a Word
Look at the picture and then join the sound cards to make the word. Check the children have created the word by getting them to sound out each letter.
Crocodile Crocodile
This game is called Crocodile Crocodile. Give the children some sound cards and sing the song, "Crocodile Crocodile may we cross the water, upside down in a flying saucer?" The adult then says only if you have the.... sound. If the child is holding that sound they can safely cross.
Playdough
Playdough is a great way to help your children practice their sounds. You can ask the children to make the different sounds using the playdough or you can give them a word and they must make the first sound in the word.
Silly Soup
Place some items on the table that start with the chosen sound. For example if you are learning the 'sh' sound have a shoe, sheep, sharpener and then other non 'sh' items such as apple, paper, spoon. Then sing the song, "We're making lots of silly soup, we're making soup that's silly. We're going to put it in the fridge to make it nice and chilly." children then need to add a 'sh' item to the soup.
Thank you to all of the parents that attended the Phonics workshop. The feedback has been fantastic and we are looking forward to seeing many of you back next week for the Phonics open classroom. We hope you found the sessions helpful. I have added some links to some good videos, clips and websites that help support the teaching of phonics.

I would like to say a big thank you to all of the parents for the efforts you put into the book week costumes. The children looked great and they all had a fantastic time.
The children loved all of the different activities and had a great time celebrating the winners of best dressed, best book cover and best door decorations.
These are a few of my favorite books by my favorite author Oliver Jeffers.
I am looking forward to finding out which books you like during our Book Week.
Due to the heavy rains we are experiencing an excessive amount of mosquitoes. We are taking many precautions to protect the children from getting bitten, however they are still getting a few. We recommend that while the number of mosquitoes is high that you apply repellent. There are many different repellents that are child friendly and Tiger Balm Patches in particular are great for children as they are just small patches that can be stuck on their clothes.
As you are aware the school holds many events and appreciates all of the help and support that we receive from parents. As we are setting up the new Parent Representatives some events and activities may be organised in a different way then they used to. Please bare with us while we make the changes and look out for Do Jo messages and messages on the VLE which will keep updated on the upcoming events. We will endeavor to contact you if we require help and support with the different events.

From October 14th, F1 and F2 will have a tab located on the toolbar at the top of this page. This will take you directly to the Year groups homepage where important information about the week ahead will be shared. On the Year group pages, you will find information about what your child is learning each week at Pearl and Oryx. We will also be sharing the topic newsletter, important dates, any presentations from parents meetings and links to educational websites that you and your child can use to supplement work done in school.
The Children had a fabulous maths week. It was full of engaging and exciting activities which all of the children enjoyed. Thank you to the parents that came in and supported us during this week.
