Mountaineers celebrate post-season play

The Mountaineers made a stellar comeback during their game against Seneca. Ending the game 42-0 on Nov. 6, the boys next traveled to Cassville to compete for the Semi-Final championship.

Winning their first game against Cassville 21-13, the boys came back for more of the Wildcat taste. After Senior Rafe Darter suffered an injury, the team refused to give up. They tried hard every game, even in the face of doubt. Losing five games in a row, the boys came back and defeated Seneca, opening up the ability to move to the Semi-Finals.

When in doubt, the boys worked hard to achieve the win, but on Friday November 13, the boys faced a devastating defeat, ending the 2020 season.

¨Our Mt’Neers fall to Cassville in the Class 3 District 6 Championship game, by a score of 35-13. Our men battled hard this year! We’re proud of both our players & coaches!¨ tweeted Mt. Vernon´s twitter account on November 13.

The seniors were sad to end their season in a loss, but knew they played a mixed emotion season very well. With Covid -19 quarantining the players, and players getting hurt, the boys toughed it out to enjoy the rough season while they could.

Senior Gavynn Gann says, ¨It was very sad and unexpected. Especially for us seniors. We had worked hard and played together for all of these years, just to get that ending. I'm glad to have played with them, they're another family to me.¨
