Criteria for Extra-Curricular Participation

Attendance

The Maryland State Department of Education has issued an expectation to school districts that daily attendance will be recorded. All previous models of attendance taking during Continuity of Learning do not apply.

Student attendance is also critical to student achievement; therefore, daily attendance in school is required for all students and mandatory for attendance at and participation in extracurricular activities.  The following regulations apply to all students:  To participate in or attend any athletic or non-athletic event, students are expected to be in all of their scheduled classes on the day of a school-sponsored extracurricular event.  With prior approval of the principal or designee, a student may be excused for pre-scheduled appointments.  Students who are absent on the day of an event without prior approval may not attend or be involved in the activity for the day.  Students with repeated unexcused absences or tardies may be removed from an activity.  An unexcused absence will result in a loss of participation in and/or attendance at the next event, practice, or contest.
