Computer Use/Regulations
Personal computers and school computers used in designated labs, mobile labs, the media center, and individual workstations are for the use of students and staff for educational purposes. Use of these computers is encouraged during class as a part of the instructional plan. Available before school, at lunchtime, and after school in the media center and in designated labs under the supervision of school staff, computer use must be in support of the educational program. Accounts may be revoked or suspended for any students found in violation of the guidelines which govern computer use.
Rules for use of computers at Quince Orchard High School are:
Installation of any outside commercial, public domain, or persona software in the school machines is strictly prohibited.
Keyboards are to stay on the tables/carts in front of the workstations.
Abuse of computer and/or peripheral devices will require that students reimburse the school for damage.
Exit from network programs by closing them in accordance with posted log out instructions.
Computer workstations should not be turned off unless a program locks up, or by explicit direction of the supervising adult.
Book bags and other belongings should not be placed on computer furniture.
Internet access is available for educational purposes only.
Food or drinks are not allowed at computer workstations in any location in the building.
Documentation or other materials relating to the use of the network may not leave the classroom/media center without authorization by the appropriate staff member.
The MCPS Central Office Department of Technology monitors all use and content accessed on its network and equipment. Students who attempt to circumvent the network or who access sites which do not serve a direct instructional purpose will have their accounts revoked. They may also face financial reimbursement for any loss or damage to equipment.
