Criteria for Extra-Curricular Participation

Academic Eligibility

All high school students, with the exception of students entering from a non-MCPS school OR who are entering ninth grade for the first time, must be eligible to participate in extracurricular activities and athletics.  In order to be eligible, a student must maintain a 2.0 average with no more than one failing grade (E) in a marking period.  A marking period begins on the day that a report card is issued and continues until the day that the next report card is issued.  While ineligible, a student may not hold an office in a club or school organization nor participate in any way in an activity where he/she represents the club or organization in the name of Quince Orchard High School Students who become ineligible during the final marking period will not be eligible in the fall quarter.  Students whose fourth quarter report results in ineligibility for fall may repeat failed courses in summer school for the purpose of regaining eligibility; however, if a failed course is not offered during the summer session, the student will be allowed to take another course in the same subject area. If a course is not available, the student and their counselor will decide on the course and/or subject area.  The summer session grade will replace the lowest course grade from the final marking period and be factored in to determine the 2.0 minimum average for participation. Quince Orchard High School strives to be a school where students can excel in a safe and nurturing school environment.
