Giardino Placido Rizzotto

Uno dei giardini pubblici di Colleferro è stato intitolato a Placido Rizzotto, un sindacalista e politico italiano rapito e ucciso da Cosa Nostra nel 1948.

Il giardino è stato inaugurato il 12 aprile 2013 dal sindaco Mario Cacciotti con la benedizione di monsignor Luciano Lepore; alla manifestazione erano presenti anche molti studenti delle scuole elementari che, alla fine della cerimonia, hanno inaugurato i giochi del giardino.

Purtroppo prima del 2013 il parco non era messo bene ma fortunatamente è stato restaurato ma negli anni successivi come nel 2016 e nel 2020 il parco è stato vittima di vandalismo 

Il Consiglio Comunale ha deciso all’unanimità di intitolare il parco a Placido Rizzotto perché è stato uno dei simboli della lotta contro la mafia. Quest’uomo si impegnò a favore del movimento contadino per l’occupazione delle terre, sfidando i boss mafiosi locali. Il 10 marzo 1948 venne rapito, assassinato e gettato in una profonda fossa comune.

Un pastorello che aveva assistito alla scena fu ucciso con un’iniezione di veleno nell’ospedale del dottor Michele Navarra, all’epoca capomafia di Corleone. Il ragazzo si trovava lì perché era stato ricoverato proprio a causa dello shock subìto.

Per il suo impegno lo Stato aveva riconosciuto a Rizzotto la medaglia d’oro al merito civile.

One of Colleferro’s public gardens was named after Placido Rizzotto,an Italian politician kidnapped and killed by the Cosa Nostra in 1948. The gardens is was inaugurated on 12 April 2013.

The City Council unanimously decided to name the park after Placido Rizzotti because he was one of the symbols of the fight against mafia. This man committed himself to the peasant movement for land occupation, challenging local mafia bosses. March 10 1948 he was kidnapped, murdered and thrown into a deep common grave.

A shepherd boy who had witnessed the scene was killed with an injection of poison in the hospital of Doctor Michele Navarra, at the time the mafia boss of Lionheart. The boy was there because he had been hospitalized just incause of the shock suffered. For his commitment, the State had awarded Rizzotti the medalgold to civil merit.

Overall, the park is sufficiently cared for: the grass is cut and the plants are pruned, the games have been restored and, therefore, they are in good conditions.

However there is garbage on the ground because there are only two little onesbuckets too close together that are not used.

There are no benches. As stated on the sign of one of the two entrances, there are some surveillance cameras and a padlock to lock the park at night.

The driveway, made of porphyry, is fairly well-kept.
