At the fall convocation, I had the privilege of recognizing an exceptional team of faculty and administrators, the recipients of the 2023-2024 Innovation of the Year Award. As many of you know, NPC is a member of the League for Innovation in the Community College, a national organization that champions forward-thinking and creative initiatives in higher education. Each year, the League honors individuals or groups at member colleges whose innovative work makes a meaningful impact. This year, NPC’s award goes to the team behind the Nursing Assistant Integrated Education and Training (IET-NAT) Project.

August was a great month for Early College. Advisement Day for NAVIT students was a huge success, serving over 450 students. All of the NAVIT and TALON students are registered for classes and we're doing the final touches on Dual Enrollment registration. Our changes to the TALON scheduling had a couple of minor hiccups, but overall, it was a major improvement over prior years' registration.
The NPC Library had a very successful round of Discovery Nest activities over the summer. Families visited the Silver Creek Campus Library in Snowflake three times in June to create explosion cards with an embossed paper strip design on the front, transforming banner cards, and shape books. Also, the first ever Adult/Teen Discovery Nest was held on Monday, July 29, where participants made pop-up gift bag cards. Click the newsletter link below to see photos of some of those who attended and their finished projects.
The NPC Library is also offering a community gathering the first Friday of each month from 1 - 4 pm at the Little Colorado Campus in Winslow. Fiber Folke is an exciting opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of fiber arts. Whether you're eager to learn new techniques, experiment with different materials, or showcase your skills, this gathering offers a welcoming space for creativity and collaboration. You'll connect with fellow enthusiasts, exchange ideas, and be inspired by the diverse talents within the community. If you're a seasoned artist or a curious beginner, Fiber Folke invites you to explore the rich textures and vibrant possibilities of fiber arts together.
Also, join us on Wednesday, September 11 at 2:00 to discuss whatever you are reading at the Fantastic Books and Where to Find Them book club!
Welcome back everyone, we hope that your summer was restful and productive. OAI was busy this summer working to complete a few projects. The first one was to launch the new webpage for OAI, it went live July 2024, please take a few minutes and look at the changes: www.npc.edu/oai.
We have also started the process for rebuilding our Assistive Technology inventory due to the flood/storage situation last year. The most popular item at this time is one that supports students with reading concerns, it is called a C-Pen. This is a tool that reads printed materials to the student allow them to maintain their independence at this level of education. If you are interested in learning more about the C-Pen you can explore here: https://www.scanningpens.com.
We hope to keep growing and evolving as a department and strive to support our NPC faculty and staff when ever need, if you have any questions we would like to hear from you. Our department email is oai@npc.edu.
