Welcome to the first edition of our 2024 newsletter! As spring unfolds, we are buzzing with activity across our diverse departments, all contributing towards our collective mission. Early College has successfully wrapped up TALON and NAVIT registrations, along with an informative Advisement Day for NAVIT students. The team is enthusiastically organizing a High School Appreciation Day and crafting a robust Strategic Communication Plan...
Where are you from originally and/or currently?
I was born and raised in Willcox Arizona. If you haven’t been there, it is a very small town in the southeastern corner of the state in Cochise county. I am currently living in Overgaard with my husband and three daughters.
What is your educational background?
I attended Willcox High School where I took dual enrollment classes through Cochise college. I received my AGEC from Cochise College and transferred to the University of Arizona as a sophomore where I studied Agricultural Communications. I was also very active in the FFA (Future Farmers of America) all throughout high school and was elected as State FFA President during my first year of college. I received some college credits for my time as State FFA President. I had the amazing opportunity to give presentations to high school students across the state as well as to industry partners such as the AZ Farm Bureau and AZ Cattlemen’s Association. I lobbied for career and technical education at our state capital and in Washington DC. My time in FFA directly influenced my choice for a degree in Ag Communications. I went on to use my degree as a Public Affairs Specialist for the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), in developing my own small business, and now here at NPC!
What do you love doing the most in your work?
There are two things that I love to do - 1. Help others and 2. Be creative. I really enjoy providing assistance with a smile to help make someone’s day a little brighter and their load a little lighter. I like to keep busy, so utilizing creative ways to learn more about the college or those I work with keeps me engaged. Being an assistant for the Instructional Council definitely keeps me on my toes and provides an opportunity to always learn something new!
If you were to take a course in something, what would it be?
I could go down so many avenues for this! I am a learning-by-doing person, so I would choose something within the CTE division. Honestly, with a house full of girls and a creative itch that needs to be scratched, I would take some cosmetology classes for hair cutting!
What are your favorite things to do/eat/read?
I love to bake, garden, hunt, camp, dance, and be creative! I truly love being with my family and finding ways to explore this beautiful landscape we live in. I love good Mexican food and pretty much anything made in a dutch oven over the fire. Most of my reading these days is done via audio books! I enjoy a mix of spiritual growth books and mystery novels.
What goal are you dreaming about completing?
I am still in the middle of one of my goals which was to leave Buckeye and move to Show Low. Therefore, though it may sound simple, my goal right now is to plant roots in this community and continue to work hard to meet the needs of the Division of Instructional Innovation and the Instructional Council here at NPC.

Things are plugging away at Early College- We have completed TALON and NAVIT registration and are almost finished with Dual Enrollment.
We hosted almost 400 NAVIT students on 5 different campuses and centers for Advisement day. We want to send out a huge THANK YOU to Jenna Herman, Andi Debellis, Kate Buckhorn, Ben Sandoval, BetsyAnn Wilson, Frank Pinnell and Financial Aid who helped us make that a successful event.
February 28th we are hosting High School Appreciation Day for our High School partners at SCC. We will be sharing with them best practices, training on Moodle and other resources we have to help them and our students succeed.
Early College will also be rolling out a Strategic Communication Plan to help us better convey information to our high schools and students regarding updates and reminders. We think this will really help improve our operations. Happy Valentines Day ❤️
February 11 is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, which started in 2016. Join in recognizing the day by checking out some books available at the NPC Library about women and girls who have made incredible contributions to the scientific community in our February Library newsletter. You could also celebrate Read in the Bathtub Day on February 9, but please not with a library book!
I hope you all had time to rest and regroup during the break. January was a busy month for OAI as I am sure it was for all of you. Please help me in welcoming Heather Williams to the OAI team, she is returning to NPC as the Assistant to the Coordinator of OAI. I am very excited to have her on my team. We have been prepping to move into our new office space here at SCC, we will not be moving into the Student Center like most of the other departments housed here. OAI will stay in the Learning Center to ensure that our office is accessible for all students. We have been going through inventory to make sure that all of our equipment is running and up to date. Heather and I are very excited to be working together to provide services to the students here at NPC and we welcome the opportunity to connect with each of you when requested to support you all supporting our students. Please let us know how we can best provide support to all of you.

We often celebrate gifted kids in school, natural athletes in sports, and child prodigies in music. But you don’t have to be a wunderkind to achieve success.

Research shows that working professionals who exercise during the day feel healthier and experience positive associations with job performance, including improvement in time management skills and mental performance. Employees are more likely to demonstrate better moods, increased motivation, greater stamina to complete work, less stress, and better interactions with coworkers.
