As we near the end of 2023, I am delighted to reflect on the remarkable year of Instructional Innovation. We have witnessed significant achievements and embarked on exciting projects that are shaping the future of education in our institution.
Early College (EC) enrollment remains on an impressive upward trajectory. Fall 2023 has seen an outstanding 11.8% growth in Full-time Student Equivalents (FTSE) compared to the previous year. This remarkable accomplishment solidifies EC's position, now constituting 51.5% of NPC's total enrollment, with NAVIT experiencing substantial growth. We anticipate this upward trend to persist in both NAVIT and dual enrollment programs, with the addition of new programs in our college's service areas...

Early College is knee deep in registration for SP24. We've been building courses, registering students and filling out Early College Waiver forms like nobody's business! We would also like to welcome back Monument Valley High School into our fold; they will be offering our Early Childhood Education Dual Enrollment courses this spring and Talon classes in the fall.
The NPC Library had a very successful Discovery Nest activity on Wednesday, November 22. Families visited the Silver Creek Campus Library in Snowflake to create swing-n-sway cards, which are interactive cards with a swinging element on the front. Participants chose from either a Thanksgiving/fall theme or a Christmas/winter theme for their project. Check out the December Library Newsletter to see photos of some of those who attended and their finished projects. The next Discovery Nest activities will be in June 2024.
It has been another crazy month for OAI, but I am sure we are all experiencing the same level of that as the semester starts to wrap up. Earlier this month I attended AHEAD’s Accessing Higher Ground Conference in Denver, CO. The purpose of this conference is to learn more about accessible media, universal design and assistive technology for colleges and universities, legal and policy issues including ADA compliance, and the creation of accessible media and information resources, including Web pages and library resources. I went with an open mind to learn as much as I could to support the students, faculty and staff here at NPC.
While there I attended a hands-on workshop “How to Create Alternate Format for Students with Print Disabilities”. This was a pretty intense two days for me, I came away with a better understanding of how to create accessible documents and texts so they are screen reader ready. The following days were filled with breakout session to learn more about creating an accessible learning environment for students with disabilities. I also had the opportunity to network with a few other colleges and universities across the country. There were 27 different vendors in attendance as well, the majority of them were there to offer services to ensure that ADA and Accessibility are being complied with in higher education. There were also vendors sharing about software and resources that provide accessibility for things like note taking, alternate formatting for documents and textbooks, and screen readers. After attending this conference, I believe that we here at NPC are working in a positive direction to make sure we are offering our students the tools they need to be successful. I do think we still have a lot of work to do and it will take us all to get there. I would like to invite anyone who is interested to reach out when questions arise, offer any insight you might have related to tools that offer accessibility (always like to share), and ideas as we work to keep our practices up to date and current.
