As the year comes to an end we have to say goodbye to our lovely seniors. This year was a learning experience for not only the students but they also got a brand new teacher. While there were challenges they stepped up and took the challenge and did a great job.
Prom was a night to remember for sure. As the end of the year approaches, many memories are being made and prom is one of the last. Madie Barnes said that her favorite memory was taking pictures in the photo booth with all her friends, but especially with Mandy Haynes. Madie said, ¨Talon Stout definitely was one of the most lively and the life of the party. Everyone really wanted him to come and everyone had a fun time being around him.¨ When asked who stood out the most, she replied with, ¨Abbi Orchard and her dog, Fi-Fi, looked super cute together.¨ Some of the funniest things definitely had to have happened with that poor chair that sat in the middle of the floor.
Going through the years of growing up in a small town you become close with everyone you meet. To say the senior class of 2021 isn’t close would be an understatement. After all the trials and tribulations we have gone through as a class, we are almost able to say “We did it”! With COVID-19 it hasn’t made it any easier on anyone, especially seniors today. Thankfully we have been able to go about our senior year, somewhat the same as previous years. After talking to multiple seniors we are able to see all the most memorable events and futures they are walking into.
National Honor Society is a club at Liberty High School that focuses on assisting the community and school. To become a member of the National Honor Society students must be a sophomore, junior or senior, have a minimum G.P.A of 3.5, no disciplinary history, have good character, and participate in community service. While in National Honor Society students have the chance to assist their community and school by participating in toys for tots, ringing the bell for the salvation army, assisting the garden club in their Arbor day activities, helping the incoming freshman on SYNC night, and making sure the seniors have a perfect graduation ceremony.
Within the Mountain View- Birch Tree (MVBT) School District, one teacher gets nominated to be the teacher of the month by all of the other teachers in the district. There is only one winner per month. Mrs. Smith is an eighth grade American History teacher at the MVBT Middle School. Smith was rewarded with being teacher of the month on April Fool's day. She explained she was ¨caught off guard¨ and thought it was the ¨best prank ever.¨ ¨I appreciate all the bomb.com teachers that voted for me! I won the gift sponsored by Barn Hollow Veterinary Services so that was a double bonus!¨ Smith stated.

Family Career and Community Leaders of America is to help strengthen the function of the family as a basic unit of society. It encourages democracy through cooperative action in the home and community. It encourages individual and group involvement in helping achieve global cooperation and harmony. It also promotes greater understanding between youth and adults.
Every year, the Liberty High School FFA organizes activities for National FFA Week. FFA is known as Future Farmers of America. FFA is a youth organization that prepares members for leadership and careers in the Science, Business and Technology Fields of Agriculture all around the United States. Mr. Cornman, Liberty High School´s FFA sponsor, says, “FFA week has been going on for decades. It is a national event for FFA.”
During the past months students and faculty have had the opportunity to “Ask Jenna” for advice and tell me ways they feel the newspaper staff could brighten up their day.
Each month in the Mountain View Birch Tree Liberty Highschool does an event where FTA members vote and select a specific teacher to be represented for a specific month. The current sponsor for the FTA is Mr. Conway. So far the voting is held within the school. The main point of this is so that the school and the teachers can see who has been working to their very extent making an example for other teachers to try their very best. Coach Eli Ernst is trying his very best to give these students an education so their futures will be brimming with opportunities.
Mrs. Elaine Weaver was elected the district’s February Teacher of the Month. Mrs. Elaine is always prepared and uses every second of her time teaching. She came up with a great idea for kindergarten that has proven to be effective for the students. Students are grouped into ability groups. “This has saved so much precious teaching time because we do not have to slow down for struggling students. Our students are working on skills that are appropriate for that group.”

Each year the Mountain View- Birch Tree High School does an event where they give a crush a crush. Students can pay two dollars to Mrs. Phipps to buy a heart. On the heart the student can write a message and decorate it for another student or teacher within the school. The note can be anonymous or the student can put their name on it. Then one morning, students in FBLA will pass them out to the selected person on the heart. “It's a fundraiser the seniors made where they give a crush to your friend or the person you like,” Justice Bales.
Every month there are teachers that go above and beyond what is required of them. Of all the elected teachers in the district only one is the winner. This month that teacher is Melissa Rutledge from the Mountain View Birch Tree District. Mrs. Rutledge is a dedicated first grade teacher.
Earlier this February FTA announced their Teacher of the Month as the 12th Grade English teacher, Kala Chambers. When questioned how she felt about being made Teacher of the Month, she replied, “It is an honor to be teacher of the month. I love my students and love what I do, so it feels nice to be recognized by the students.”

66.7% of the participants stated that they were stressed, while 33.3% of people said they were stressed but not for any particular reason just that school stresses them out.
The past two years the current senior class has hosted a dodgeball tournament as a fundraiser for their class. It’s always an exciting event that students look forward to watching and playing in. There is always a lot of fun competition involved in the games. The winning team this year was the senior team The Alphas. The members of the winning team were Damian Pendegraft, Braden Gastineau, Kevin Ledgerwood, Kaden Daniels, Zeb Cornman, and Marie McClellan.
This week Spirit Week theme is Winter Wonderland which means students will have to dress up in their favorite winter pajamas, favorite christmas movie character, ugly sweaters and on thursday students dress up in their class colors and on friday students will wear red , white , blue.
Throughout the week are the four dress up days, which leads up to the last fifth day being red white and blue day along with the annual spirit wars assembly. The assembly consists of a competitive game between all four princes, and queen candidates and their escorts.
Every year, the Mountain View- Birch Tree High School has a hoop queen. The hoop queen coordination is in between the Liberty’s boys junior varsity and the varsity basketball games. When entering the high school to go to these games, there are main windows. One of the spirit activities of the hoop queen spirit week, is decorating these windows. Each grade level gets to decorate their window. Their overall theme of the windows was winter wonderland. The windows were judged by our school sponsors.
Each month teachers nominate a different teacher within the Mountain View- Birch Tree School District to be the Teacher of the Month. Out of all of the selected teachers, there is only one winner. For the month of December, Mrs. Jolie Owens won. She is a Title I Reading and Math Specialist in both Mountain View and Birch Tree Elementary Schools.

Angie Miller has been Liberty’s High School secretary for 8 years and decided to be the secretary of Liberty High School because this is where she went to school and her family is from here. Angie is one of the kindest and nicest people in the school but some people wonder what she does in a day. Depending on what’s going on she said “My duties vary from checking students in and out, putting attendance in the computer, I call substitute teachers, I also do reports announcements, answering the phone and being available for whoever needs me.”
Every month the Mountain View-Birch Tree School District chooses a teacher that has shown exemplary leadership, creates an atmosphere that is great for learning, and spreads positivity to students and staff. Each month teachers are nominated by their peers based off of a particular quality they possess that make them an exemplary teacher. The characteristic for the November teacher of the month was preparedness. Gina Anderson, a second grade teacher at Mountain View Elementary, was chosen for the November Teacher of the Month.
Have you ever wondered what Mr. Daniels does throughout the day, while you’re in class, working hard, stressing over that next test. You may be thinking he couldn’t possibly be that busy, but you would definitely be wrong. An interview with Mr. Daniels revealed what he does on a normal day, some of the hardest parts of his days and how much time and effort he dedicates to Liberty High School.
The Future Teachers of America (FTA) are now choosing the most impactful teacher of the month. For the Month of December FTA chose Mr.Collins the ninth grade English teacher and one of sponsors for the Senior Class of 2021.
Mountain View-Birch Tree’s Liberty High School’s Health Occupations class just recently took their CNA test. All students in the Health Occupations class passed. A CNA helps patients with activities of daily living and other healthcare needs under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
For the past few years, Mountain View-Birch Tree School District has been introducing new technology into their classrooms. Chromebooks have changed the schools completely. At the Mountain View-Birch Tree High School each student has their own personal chromebook. During their first hour, they check out their chromebook, and now the school has added an eighth hour at the end of the day to check their chromebook back in. Each student has their own log in for the chromebooks.

The age old question of “hamburgers or pizza” was given to Junior, Deion Lee. Deion quickly answered, “I would rather have pizza because you can put more stuff on it.” Deion was also asked if he preferred Summer or Winter. He responded with, “I like summer better because it is warm and you can wear whatever you want, and stay out as late as you want because you don’t have to worry about school the next day.”
Hey guys! It is Jenna here; there are a lot of things in my life that tend to stress me out. Going to people to talk about my problems and get their opinion on what I should do always helps me out! That is where I will be coming in handy.

Each month the Mountain View-Birch Tree district teachers vote for teacher of the month. They all get to put in their vote and why they believe that teacher deserves to get it. Each month a teacher is nominated based on a characteristic that makes them an exceptional teacher. It is a fun way for our district to show appreciation for our teachers while getting the faculty involved.
The Future Teachers of America (FTA) are now choosing which teacher they think is the most impactful for the month. For November, they decided to pick Mrs. Day, a Math teacher at LHS.

At Mountain View- Birch Tree Liberty High School, students are given the opportunity to dress up during spirit week. The most recent spirit week, which was for a homecoming football game, was from Monday, September 28th, to Friday, October 2nd, 2020. Each day consisted of a theme: Monday- Halloween surgical mask, Tuesday- throwback Halloween costume, Wednesday- favorite scary movie character, Thursday- class color, and Friday- red, white, and blue day.
In light of Liberty’s homecoming football game celebration, the high school hosted a pep assembly where homecoming candidates and their escorts competed in a series of games, as well as fall sports being recognized. The candidates fighting to win during the games were Jocelyn Clark, Shayla Denton, Chloe Young, and Brooklyn Billeck for the queen title, along with Kelstin Roy, Shelby Acklin, Kenzie Daniels, and Sydney Radford for princess.
LHS’s spirit week for homecoming has concluded. Each class had the opportunity to work on their hallway for points that went towards who won homecoming queen. Members from each class spent the week decorating their hallway to help their princess win and to contribute to the homecoming theme of Fright Night.
At Liberty High School, every year each grade level paints a sheet to make a banner to show the spirit of their class. Many teachers keep the banners in their room so that students can work on it throughout homecoming week.
The 2020 homecoming was a very memorable event. The ceremony helps bring in alumni and family members from all over to come and see all the beautiful candidates and watch a good game of Liberty football.
Each year the student council welcomes new members. They get freshman reps, some members get officer positions, which opens spots for new class reps. The new members for the 2020-2021 school year are Ava Greenan (freshmen), Wyatt Honeycutt (freshmen), Shelby Acklin (junior), Kiah Reese (senior), Jocelyn Clark (senior), and Lucas Barnes (senior).
Applying to college sounded like the thing that could wait, but, like most things, time flew on by. Now seniors across the nation are now looking for colleges that suit them.
Mr. Cornman, Liberty High School’s FFA Advisor described FFA as, “‘Future Farmers of America’ was founded by a group of young farmers in 1928. Their mission was to prepare future generations for the challenges of feeding a growing population. They taught us that agriculture is more than planting and harvesting – it’s a science, it’s a business and it’s an art.” Many don't have a basic understanding of what FFA is. Mr. Cornman wants everyone to not only understand what it is, but what all it entails.
Mr. Conway, sponsor of FTA and also the sophomore history teacher, states that Future Teachers of America (FTA) is to “generate interest in teaching as a career. There is a shortage of teachers in certain subjects in Missouri and we need to be able to meet the demand for these positions going forward.” FTA is for anyone that is interested in Mountain View-Birch Tree Liberty High School.
Liberty High School’s band welcomed a new teacher this year, Mr. Collins. Mr. Collins teaches at the high school for first and second hour then heads on over to the middle school for the rest of his day. Here at LHS he can be seen teaching Band and Fundamentals of Music.
Liberty High School students have some bright futures ahead of them. After high school, Liberty’s Kaden Daniels would like to attend college to be a student athlete participating in either football or basketball. He wants to get his degree in Biology and become a conservation agent. Kaden says, “I love being outside with God's creation; it just amazes me.”
Liberty High has had to face many challenges before ,but nothing quite like the pandemic of 2020. The coronavirus has affected the life of many and has significantly impacted how teachers teach and how students learn. Many teachers and students are having to get used to the idea of doing everything virtually. Some see this as a good thing, while others have struggled with the new concept. After interviewing students who had to adapt to learning through Google Meet calls and teachers finding new, creative ways to teach their kids, everyone can have an insight on their unique experiences.

The freshmen have transitioned into high school and a new school year. This is a big change from their lives and routines in middle school. This is how the transition from middle school to high school and to the 2020-2021 school year has been.
September 2020 has been a significant month for the senior class. Former class President Randen Walton and Vice President Briar Barnes no longer hold their three-year designation. With new President Kiah Reese and Vice President Brylee Warren, what’s in store for the seniors this year?
Mrs. Barnes switched from teaching fourth grade to now teaching highschool at Mountain View-Birch Tree Liberty High. In 1993, she graduated from LHS. Then she began substituting for a part-time job after her first son was born. After a while, she decided she wanted to pursue her career in teaching.
Mr. Collins is a new teacher for the Mountain View Birch Tree R-III School District. He teaches at both the high school and middle school. At LHS, he teaches Band and Fundamentals of Music.
Before Mr. Conway returned to Liberty he taught at West Plains, Miller, and Houston. Mr. Conway is currently the World History teacher, but he previously taught English at Liberty.
New to coaching and teaching, Liberty’s Coach Denton will be returning to his hometown where he graduated high school. Coach James Denton is excited to return to his hometown.
Mrs. Field recently moved to the Mountain View Birch Tree R-lll School District over the Summer from San Diego, California to be a teacher here at LHS.
Mrs. Gordon is a first year teacher having just completed her student teaching last year. Mrs. Gordon drives over an hour to LHS every morning proving just how dedicated she is to her LHS students.
Ms. Phipps takes on Yearbook, Computer Applications, and Desktop Publishing back at her alma mater for her first year teaching high school. There are many different reasons why teachers choose this profession and for Ms. Phipps it gives her a purpose and allows her to have an impact on her community.
