The 2020 homecoming was a very memorable event. The ceremony helps bring in alumni and family members from all over to come and see all the beautiful candidates and watch a good game of Liberty football.
There is a princess from each class. All week each grade competes with dress up days, banners, hallway decorating, pennies for points, and the assembly at the end of the week. Everything has a certain amount of points grade levels can win. At the end of the week, they add up the points and whoever has the most points wins. There are four queen candidates and they campaign all week. Each class receives an email to vote and that is how the winner of queen is determined.
Being a part of homecoming is something that high school students look forward to each year. Everyone has their own favorite parts and memories. Chloe Young stated that her favorite memory was, “getting to walk on the field as a queen candidate and the senior class winning.”
Jocelyn had a different viewpoint which was, “hearing the whole crowd cheering for everyone the whole time.”
The homecoming ceremony is a great time for students to have their time to shine. They get to dress up, walk on the field, and everyone hears their little autobiography that is all about them getting read over the speaker to the crowd. Everyone is taking pictures and capturing all the unforgettable moments. It is a great opportunity for candidates to have a portion of the night dedicated to them.
Along with all of the excitement there can be a lot of stress. Kenzie Daniels stated that the most stressful part for her was, “trying not to fall on the field while walking out because of Kason Richards,” she said jokingly.
Shelby Acklin’s stress began in preparation for the big night, “trying to figure out when I was going to get everything done was the most stressful for me.”
Shayla Denton went on to say, “ I enjoyed getting the opportunity to walk and all of my family coming down.” Homecoming is all about having fun, coming together as a class, feeling special, and making memories.
After a successful day of campaigning from all four queens, Thursday morning before school no one knew who would win the crown Friday night. All of the queens kept their spirits up and wished each other the best before walking onto the field where Jocelyn Clark took her crown as queen with escort Broc Bay. All of the candidates were so thankful for the opportunity to be in homecoming and cannot wait for hoop queen to come so they can support their class once again.
