Each year the Mountain View- Birch Tree High School does an event where they give a crush a crush. Students can pay two dollars to Mrs. Phipps to buy a heart. On the heart the student can write a message and decorate it for another student or teacher within the school. The note can be anonymous or the student can put their name on it. Then one morning, students in FBLA will pass them out to the selected person on the heart. “It's a fundraiser the seniors made where they give a crush to your friend or the person you like,” Justice Bales.
Sometimes, teenage students feel awkward in situations like these. But in Chloe Young’s (a senior) case, she did not feel awkward getting a crush. Young said that getting a crush made her “feel liked.” She has both given and received a crush from someone. And she has got gifted crushes “more than I could count,” Young said.
Justice Bales, also a senior, received a crush within the Liberty School. Bales said that getting a crush made her, “feel embarrassed because it came from a different person other than the person it was supposed to come from.” She doesn't like to make crushes for people because “it was awkward to get in the middle of the lunch room to do it,” Bales states.
A Liberty High math teacher, Mrs. Stephens, was also given a crush. She has received about 3 or 4 crushes since they began the event. Mrs. Stephens said that getting a crush made her “feel very loved, and feel special.” She also enjoys giving out crushes to people. “I bought Mr. Stephens one too,” Mrs. Stephens said. She appreciates the Crush for Crush event, and thinks “it is a neat thing that they do this every year. It is a good fundraiser. And it is a good way to recognize valentines day with!”
