Ms. Phipps takes on Yearbook, Computer Applications, and Desktop Publishing back at her alma mater for her first year teaching high school. There are many different reasons why teachers choose this profession and for Ms. Phipps it gives her a purpose and allows her to have an impact on her community.
When asked how the Yearbook program has changed over the years she responded by saying, “the drive and leadership in my students now to want to make a memorable yearbook is refreshing.” Everyone can tell how excited she is to try to spice up the yearbook by encouraging the staff to get involved.
Phipps has gone through many different changes in her life since she last walked the halls as a student. One of the biggest changes has been her son Kai. When asked the type of impact that he has had on her life she went on to say that “it changed it completely.” Nothing is the same but that is a good thing because he “focused her.” She continued, “He's so wonderful. He has the greatest personality and is the best part of who I am.”
The students are a big part of teaching. Many students were excited to share their experiences with Ms. Phipps so far this year. Peyton Bush said, “Her room always smells very nice and she is very kind and caring.”
Other students said she was very trendy. Students connecting with her through the way she dresses or presents her room has created a fun learning environment. Tyler Smith had a different experience and said, “I like how chill she is, and how she interacts with us.”
From 2003, when Ms. Phipps attended school here, to 2020, LHS has had many changes as well. When asked what improvements she could see in our school she replied, “I remember being in school and having girls games and our parents being the only fans, but now the girls have lots of reliable fans that come to every game”.
She really enjoys the positive changes she is seeing here and is happy to be a part of the school. “My favorite part of my job is that the teachers are more involved in our community. They may have grown up here or have family here. They have more of an investment and it makes me so happy to see all of the community involvement,” she said cheerfully.
