Within the Mountain View- Birch Tree (MVBT) School District, one teacher gets nominated to be the teacher of the month by all of the other teachers in the district. There is only one winner per month. Mrs. Smith is an eighth grade American History teacher at the MVBT Middle School. Smith was rewarded with being teacher of the month on April Fool's day. She explained she was ¨caught off guard¨ and thought it was the ¨best prank ever.¨ ¨I appreciate all the bomb.com teachers that voted for me! I won the gift sponsored by Barn Hollow Veterinary Services so that was a double bonus!¨ Smith stated.

When Smith is voting for a teacher of the month, she looks for ¨teachers that go above and beyond.” She also said, ¨There are so many gifted and talented teachers in the MVBT district! It's hard to choose.¨

Mrs. Smith has been teaching education for a total of 18 years. She said, ¨I´ve worked at Springfield Catholic High School, Study Middle School in Springfield, Eminence High School and then settled for the best: Liberty Middle School.” Smith continued, ¨My first job was actually high school english but history is my love.¨ She has also coached volleyball for 4th graders through 12 graders, cheerleading, and dance team too.

¨We do it all in my classroom! My favorite is my ¨Life Lectures.¨ The goal is to create young American Patriots and that students leave with more knowledge in May than when they arrived in August!¨ explained Smith.

Smith enjoys her classes very much. ¨I remember EVERY. SINGLE. STUDENT. I have ever taught. My memory is like an elephant´s and I promise students affect me more than I affect them,¨ Smith explained. ¨I currently drive thirty plus miles to work in the best school district in southern Missouri. I try to instill a work ethic in my students and feel passionate that if you put EFFORT in, you can do anything.¨

¨If you are reading this and you´re a past student of mine, remember that it's never too late to become what you´re meant to be. ´Potential´ is the worst word of all because it means nothing until you´ve put in the WORK. Also, you should be PROUD of where you come from, not ashamed. We live in the most beautiful place in the world. The grass isn't always greener on the other side, if you spent the time watering the grass, here, it would be just as green. GO, EAGLES!¨ mentioned Smith.
