Liberty High School’s band welcomed a new teacher this year, Mr. Collins. Mr. Collins teaches at the high school for first and second hour then heads on over to the middle school for the rest of his day. Here at LHS he can be seen teaching Band and Fundamentals of Music.
Kathy Womack is a junior at Liberty High and has been in band since the sixth grade! She currently plays the clarinet but has played the bari saxophone and tenor saxophone in her past years. Kathy went on to talk about Mr. Collins role in the class going on to say, “I really enjoy the new director. He allows us to help each other without a big fuss, and really just wants to have fun with us.”. A personal goal for Kathy this year is to, “try out and make the SCA bands and maybe take an ensemble to competition this year.” Kathy also wishes to see the, “band get larger again and we really just have fun with each other again.”
Senior, Haley Radford, has been in band for seven years and started on the clarinet, but is now playing alto saxophone. When asked if Haley was enjoying her last year in the band she says, “I am very much enjoying band this year,” but unfortunately she will not be playing in college. Hopefully, Liberty band treated her well over the years. Haley’s hopes for this year include the band being able to participate in more activities like football and basketball games, especially since all competitions were canceled this year. Haley said she will miss her, “friends and how much of a group of hard workers we have,” talking about the Liberty Band as whole.
Although competitions are canceled due to COVID-19 the band is prevailing as a whole by going into with hope for the future and tons of school spirit.
