Shakespeare Activity Days

After much deliberation and an extensive process of presentations and discussions, Shakespeare was chosen to be the new figurehead of our college. We are proud to be represented by such an inspirational writer whose influence and creativity have had such an impact on society hundreds of years after his death. Not only did he contribute 1700 new words to the English language but also his books are the second most quoted works after the bible.

In Shakespeare College, we encourage our students to be creative and enthusiastic learners, respective individuals and responsible representatives of The Leigh Academy community both in and out of school. We want all Shakespeare students to be strong communicators who can work collaboratively with both peers and adults.

On 18th and 19th July we launched our new college name by having Activity Days. Students took part in a research project to find out more about his life and his achievements as well as getting more creative, building models of the globe theatre and acting out some of his most famous scenes. One of his favourite hobbies was playing chess, so all students also had an opportunity to learn and play this too. The undoubted highlight of the two days was the falconry display which was a popular Tudor pursuit and would have been a big part of Shakespearean life.
