Mandela Activity Days

Our Year 7, 8 & 9 students engaged in a range of activities to celebrate the official renaming of our prestigious college to Mandela. With the weather forecasts predicted to hit 40 degrees, the College team had to reschedule some of the original more physical activities such as the inaugural Mandela Colour Run. This will hopefully now take place next academic year.

On Monday morning, the Mandela students took part in a Mandela launch assembly, immersing themselves in international-mindedness through their research of Nelson Mandela’s home country of South Africa. The students were also able to partake in a range of activities across the two days, including creating a mosaic portrait of Nelson Mandela (from which we hope to create posters for our tutor groups), shirt designing, and planning a trip to South Africa and composing a Mandela song. The students also had the opportunity to learn some South African phrases and play static tag rugby.

The students also were able to enjoy a free ice cream, and this was gratefully received. The staff and students threw themselves into the two days with great gusto, and we are looking forward to returning to school in the Autumn as Mandela College.
