Reward Trips

Thorpe Park

The Thorpe Park reward trip is always popular, and this year was no exception.

Taking 145 students to a theme park is no mean feat, but with organisation like clockwork, the day went without major incident, just a lot of happy and in some cases, tired young people. We did, however, bring back one or two furry mascots who I am sure will take pride of place in students' homes.

Southend Rewards Trip 12th July 2022

Fourteen staff members and one hundred and sixty students from The Leigh Academy gathered to embark on a journey to Southend’s Adventure Island for a day full of fun, rides and ice cream. Our journey to Southend went without a hitch, and with a prompt arrival, we alighted the coaches to be greeted with the fresh sea air and a busy promenade.

Our Leigh Academy students displayed exemplary behaviour on our arduous journey to the gates of Adventure Island. Finally, we arrived at the gates with time to spare - here our students demonstrated their true British values and formed an orderly queue.

When the hour struck eleven - the gates parted and made way for our eager young people to go forth and enjoy the day. There were many rides to explore from the gentle merry-go-round to the more extreme Axis - which many of our students braved, more than once!

It was a particularly hot day - our students handled this with great care and balance - demonstrating some of our core learner profile attributes. Some students exhibited excellent knowledge of keeping themselves cool by going on the Tidal Wave!

As the day drew to a close, once again the students displayed exemplary behaviour by ensuring they were ready to leave for the coaches in a prompt manner. Our journey home was filled with the happy chatter of the students sharing their experiences of the day.

It was a pleasure to take this group of students out for a day we hope they will look back on fondly.

Mote Park Activity Day

Year 12 had an absolutely jam packed day at Mote Park’s new activity area on Tuesday 12th July. They braved the heat to spend the day on the climbing wall, high ropes course and playing mini-golf before having some free time to enjoy the beautiful park and complete their photography challenge.

The activities weren’t just for the students, staff also had a great time trying everything out. A special mention must go to Mrs Howell for almost making it to the top of the climbing wall!

It was lovely to be able to spend the day as a year group and see our students enjoy some time outdoors, pushing themselves and encouraging each other to have a go at everything that was on offer. We look forward to next year’s outing!

Flip Out Rewards Trip

In order to celebrate the good work and behaviour of our students, July 12th saw almost 70 students embark on a trip to Flip Out in Thurrock. Flip Out is a trampoline and activity centre that is designed to test your endurance and physical abilities. Our students enjoyed taking part in the assault course, bouncing on the trampolines and jumping into the foam pits. Later in the session, the teachers took on the students in a challenge that saw them pitted against each other in a battle of stamina and wills. It is safe to say that the teachers rose to the challenge and well and truly beat the students and showed them how it was done!

The morning of exhausting activity was finished off with a buffet lunch that our students very much needed after two hours of running and jumping. It was a pleasure to see our students being risk takers during the day and exhibiting respect when walking through public areas and interacting with the staff at the venue. The journey back to school on the double decker bus was not quite as lively as the journey there suggesting our students were tired out from the day’s adventures! It was a joy to see our young people enjoying themselves and having fun and they were a credit to the academy.

Panic Rooms

50 like-minded code breakers descended on the Panic Rooms in Gravesend for their reward trip. We had booked out 7 of the Escape Rooms; “The Don”, “Enigma”,” Marvellous Magic School”, “North Pole 2”, “Loop”, “Wizard of Oz”, & “Old Father Time”. A selection form was set up so that the students could choose their preferred escape room fairly. All of the teams managed to escape the rooms before the deadline, and then enjoyed a leisurely lunch. The group was a pleasure to take to Panic Rooms, and we are all looking forward to next year’s event.

Gravity Reward Trip

On Tuesday 12th July I had the privilege of taking 140 students to Gravity at Bluewater, it was a fantastic day for all involved and the behaviour and attitudes of the students attending were exemplary. They were a credit to you as parents and a credit to us at The Leigh Academy. A number of members of the public made positive comments regarding the levels of respect our students displayed on the public transport as our students gave up their seats for members of our local community.

The students enjoyed a lunch from the food court in Bluewater before heading over to Gravity for an hour's exclusive jumping, a really positive way for students to be rewarded for all of their hard work and efforts this academic year. Well done Team Leigh.

Ninja Warrior

Seventy students chose, as their reward for good behaviour and positive attitude to learning across the year, to head to Chatham to have a go at the Ninja Warrior course. All had fun chasing each other through the inflatable obstacle course and many challenged themselves to see if they could ‘beat the wall’. The venue praised the students excellent behaviour and manners and all returned to school considerably more tired than when they left!

Cinema Trip at Bluewater

It was an absolute pleasure to take one hundred and fifty students to Bluewater and the Showcase Cinema. We were privileged to have our own private viewing of Jurassic World Dominion.

Our students were impeccably behaved during all aspects of the trip including travel, Bluewater food court and the cinema itself. It was also reassuring to receive an email from a member of the public stating that "the whole group were a credit to your academy, well done."
