The learning styles that I have chosen to work on are sport photography and nature photography. I will learn how to achive this goal by going to my practices and taking photos of my swim team while they are swimming and taking a whole bunch of photos in order to get the best photo. With nature photographs I will try and find plants that may not be as intriguing or interesting and try to find an angle that will make the plant more interesting than it originally was.
The themes I am interested in are taking photos of people(candids), shadows, black and white, and neon signs. I have chosen these themes because these are things I find truly interesting and feel like I could hae a lot of fun with these themes. I plan on focusing on if I am out at night and I see a neon sign to stop, find an angle that makes the sign look intresting and take a photo of it.
Editing techniques that I will like to tackle are working witht the exposure in photographs and working with depth of field. Using these techniques will make my photographs stonger by adding more interesting factors into the photographs along with crisper photos.
My work that I ended with was nature, candids, architecture, Christmas, and sports. My editing techniques where to to change the photographs to black and white, lower the exposure, and change the tone to a cooler one.
In my photographs I have found that I have used all of the elements and principles throughout this Independant Study. I also used the rule of thirds in order to make my photographs more interesting or if I felt that the photograph would have been better with the subject right in the center I ignored the rule of thirds.
Week One- It was a test round to see what caught my eye and things that made me go "wait thats a good photograph" and then I would stop whatever I was doing to get the photo. Week Two- I focus on the more nature side of things. I tried focusing on normal plants but finding angles that worked best and made the plant look nothing like it did before. Week Three- This was another week of focusing on nature but not the greenery of nature, because when you think about nature you atomaticly think green so i tried to find things in nature that was unique and not necessarily green. Week Four- I worked on architecture and trying to find a diffrent way to capture boring buildings and windows in a new and interesting way. Week Five- I took photos of my friend Alli Lambert (you can also find her photographs on this website). I just played around and had A LOT of fun with this weeks assignment. I would see something and instatly direct her on what poses I wanted her to do and tell her how her facial reaction should be. Week Six- This week my family put up our Christmas decorations and I just couldnt help myself from taking photos due to Christmas being my favorite holiday. Not only that I loved the vibe and the feeling that the room has once Christmas Decorations are up. Week Seven- For my final week I wanted to capture the annual NFC swim team Christmas party! I wanted to get some action shots of people swimming and playing the games but I also wanted to give the viewer a feeling of how happy this team is and how close we all are.
I feel as if I was successful when I was taking photographs of the things I really care about. It made me want to make the photograph so much better than it was before. I learned that I typically like black and white photographs a lot better and that I like photographs that has a darker exposure on them.
