I will mainly be focusing on photography styles, such as landscape and still, since these types interests me the most. These are the main categories I want to improve my skills in because I take many photos that fall into it. However, for this independent study, I would like to learn and build upon portrait and other styles. I will try to focus on something new every week, as well as improving on each photo every week.
Some themes that would be interesting to capture random objects, shapes and patterns in nature. I also want to test and messing around with tricks to create a picture that looks out of place.
Editing has always been the most struggling part of photography for me. I want to better improve my editing skills by playing with lighting, colors, contrast and depth of field.
1. Overall my independent study page is filled with photography styles that I've wanted to create since the beginning of the semester. I tried to push myself every week to do something that isn't necessarily in my comfort zone and try to do a different editing style each week. Throughout the whole project, the themes changed, but there was lao some variety and similarities to each week. Some things that interested me when taking these photos was the setting I was at during the time.
2/3. Throughout the whole project, I used many forms of elements and principles. I tired to focus on depth of field for at least one photo each week, since I knew that it would enhance them. All of my pictures tries to use rule of thirds and different angles. Overall, the techniques were fine, but I still want to learn and explore editing skills to better the photos.
4. On week one, the theme was close up nature photography of leaves and seeds. This theme was important because it was something that I was comfortable with taking these photos. It also allowed me to do some simple enhancements in editing. Week two was significant because it showcased dome pictures from the night of Halloween. During week three, I visited my cousins for a family gathering. It's important because this was the first time I tried to focus on portrait photography. In week four, the theme was snowy adventures and I used different filters when editing. Some of my favorite pictures came out of this week, which is why it's important. On week five, I decided to use editing to focus on the main subject rather than the background. Week six's theme was Christmas. It was significant because I focused taking picture in a bright setting, and really helped me learn some techniques when editing. And for the final week, the theme was artwork, so the pictures showcased some amazing art made by students.
5. I'm probably most proud of my weeks three and seven pictures. The overall themes and pictures made sense and I tried to use all the same editing techniques. I would redo weeks five and six again because I wasn't as pleased with those pictures than the others. I learned that I really love taking portraits of other people. Ot was a style that I defiantly want to explore more and create more photos.
