For my independent study portfolio, I am focusing on taking photographs that explore the use of depth of field, rule of thirds, lighting, color, and angles. Themes that I am interested in capturing are details from the places that I go or parts of my daily routine. The subject matter will be varied, but will capture each scene from my unique perspective. Some styles and editing techniques that I will be incorporating are framing to create emphasis, aperature settings, and simple color enhacements.
Reflection/Artist Statement:
I am a photographer for a few different reasons. I use photography as a means of documenting a striking scene, freeing myself of stress, and collecting souvenirs from my travel adventures and daily experiences. My style is tradtional, simple, and direct with a strong focus on utilizing the rule of thirds in each of my images. The camera is my tool to document what I am attracted to and to capture a visual moment I have experienced. My photography places a strong emphasis on using aperture, a variety of angles, viewpoints, framing, and simplicity to help tell the story of the place captured in each image.
In my blood is a wanderer and an explorer. If I could, I would spend the rest of my life traveling from place to place, only stopping long enough to take in everything an area has to offer. In the spare time that I have, I am always traveling. This is how I take a break from daily routines. I am very eager to be out in the world, experiencing places I have never seen before or rediscovering places I have already been. Along the way, I photograph the views that catch my eye.
My photographs are realistic in that I am merely documenting the pure essence of a location. I try to create my images in a straightforward manner with few editing enchancements in order to capture the surroundings of a place as realistically as possible. I believe in shooting multiple images of the same scene and then selecting the image that best depicts my memory of the location in the image. My photographs are my mementos and my documents. I use the images I create as a way to preserve my memories and my experiences, and as keepsakes of the alluring elements of the spots I visit.
