I am most interested in diving into abstract photography, much of which will focus on two very opposite ends of the spectrum: black and white and very bright colours. I wil focus on small, obscure details of various everyday things, making sure that all shots are not too overcrowded, busy, or dull/simplistic. I plan on focusing mainly on architectural (mostly modern) and natural photography (plants), alongside everyday objects, which I can easily combine by taking pictures of places such as gardens downtown, backyards, or parks. Other themes will likely make their way on here as well, though. Due to the more urban layout of the city, architecture and plants are often seen coinciding everywhere already. I also plan on incorporation more editing involving coloured filters, with blue/green hues being a favorite. I hope to incorporate the filters in all of my images alongside an edit similar to a frame called viginette, which leaves a dark, shadow-like aura around the image subject.
Artist Reflection
I chose to focus on my (now) theme of everyday objects due to our tendency to ignore things that do not interest us. In order to give the subjects more of a brighter, more aesthetically pleasing appearance, I used a complicated combination of filters and adjustments to change the appearance and give off a certain mood/atmosphere.
Most of my photos are comprised of very close-up shots of the subject matter, and use varying depth-of-field edits to define a clear focal point. Some focus on a more abstract aesthetic, which ranges from modern to vintage Multiple filters were used, some of which are more extreme and alter the photo's appearance significantly, an example of which can be seen in Week 7, third photo. That is the bottom of a glass ring holder my grandmother gave me, but with a high saturation and a "drama" filter thrown over it. The original ring holder was clear and colourless.
I wanted to focus on taking things that we normally ignore and making them into something that easily catches the eye and holds in the viewer, making sure to include a theme/mood that works for everyone, whether they are into more modern and unusual photos or more old-fashioned and warm photos.
I feel as though I was successful in capturing a wide variety of expressions and "personalities" through both heavy and light editing. Whether I used filters or simple brightness and saturation adjustments, I was able to create photos that can appeal to any audience. Preferably, I would have had a wider variety of items to use rather than just ones I find laying around, but overall, I find this portfolio satisfactory.
