I'm interested in learning more about close up photography, meaning how to compose a good image of an object close to the camera. Throughout the semester, I hope to get better at this.
Some themes I am interested in are, architecture, "storytelling" photos, and interesting designs. These kind of photos are not only fun to take, but can become a surprisingly interesting product.
I am going to try and learn how to recreate lighting using shadow and highlight adjustments, and lens flares. I am also interested in learning how to make smoother blurs on the unimportant areas of a photo.
Reflection Questions - Connor Adkins
1. I ended up doing a lot more close up and abstract images that I initially planned. I found some objects up close we’re very interesting and could make for some good photos. The most editing I did was filters or minor color correction. I didn’t include many key themes aside from week 7, which was very clearly a Christmas themed week.
2 & 3. I tried to incorporate the rule of thirds into every single photo, and my the end, I found I was doing it naturally. Because of my up close images, the color, space, and unity all mattered to make a good image.
4. Many of my images simply had no meaning. They were just interesting objects I found around my home and places I went to. This made for some not so great images, but some turned out really good, one of which is just a cardboard tube put on a lightbulb. The only images that had any meaning were the Christmas photos, as Christmas and the Christmas season in general is and always has been my favorite time of the year.
5. I feel I could have done better. More often than not I found myself throwing many pictures together last minute, and I would rather have not done that. The images I planned out are clearly far better, such as the image of someone jumping in a puddle from week 3. If I could redo this project from the start, I’d try to take more time with my pictures, find better things to photograph, and spend more time editing them.
