For my independent study portfolio, I am exploring with photographs that focus on lighting, color, depth of field, and FDR editing. I chose these editing techniques because I love seeing the way they can emphasize certain features in a photograph. The main themes I plan to focus on are portraits, black and white, nature, action photography, and perspective photographs. I chose these themes because I really love working with people to shoot portraits and I also love being able to see the world in a different perspective than just at face value.
This semester I was really interested in looking at the world through new eyes. So, in my photographs this meant looking at things from new angles or as cheesy as it sounds finding the true beauty in everyday objects that we take for granted. I mostly used black and white and detail enhancing editing techniques just to bring out the certain details we tend to overlook. In my portfolio of photographs like I previously stated I switched up my angles and view points of objects just to try to show off how interesting the objects really could be. in order to do this I used A lot of the elements and principles of art. Color, texture and form were my main elements, and emphasis, movement and contrast were my main principles. I really liked how many of my independent study photos came out. I think they show unique things about everyday objects and that it was I was trying to do. The only thing I wish I would have done that I did not was to take some more portraits of different people. Throughout this project I learned that I am a lot more tentative to details than I originally thought I was, and that I really love working with "models" to do shoots.
