CHILDREN!

The children were very important to the Kiowa Tribe! The children would get named after their grandparents or an important person in their tribe! Later the boys might change their names to something they did in war! Names for the dead were not used again! Boys belonged to a group called the Rabbit Society! They were drilled by two older men in the tribe and taught how to be a warrior! When boys got older they were asked to join war parties! Girls could get married at 14 years old and boys could get married at 16! Boys gave gifts to the girl’s parents. The gifts were for their loss of their daughter!

This is a doll that the Kiowa girls played with.
