Food

By: Layton

The Chumash hunted and gathered their food. The men hunted deer, bear, elk, and wild birds with bows and arrows and spears. The men also fished in canoes called tomols in the Pacific Ocean. The girls gathered berries and acorns Their most important food is acorns. The women mash acorns to make acorn soup, cakes, flour, fry bread and porridge. The Chumash girls and their moms weave baskets to carry water, food and cooking supplies.

Today you can find those baskets in museums all around the world.
