The Cherokee lived in round houses called Asi

The Cherokee lived in the Appalachian Mountains, near Tennessee. They lived in houses called round houses. Round houses are built out of grass, mud, branches, animal hair and clay. The round houses looked like a upside down basket. Later in the years the Cherokee people started to build log cabins. If you were a Cherokee you would have two houses. One of the houses is for summer. The summer house was made out of logs, small trees, bamboo and grass. The beds inside of the summer house were made out of a woven cane stalks that were held up by wooden post. The other house was called the winter house. The winter house was also called Asi. The asi house had a thatched roof made out of reeds. To enter the asi house you had to crawl through a small round door.
