Foundations of Law and Public Safety is an introductory Level 1 course that gives students a practical understanding of the law, the justice system, and public safety professions. Students explore careers in law enforcement, legal services, emergency response, and corrections. The course builds core knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, criminal behavior and prevention, constitutional protections, and the structure and purpose of the courts. Students also learn the roles and responsibilities of key professionals who keep communities safe and support the justice system.
As part of the program of study sequence for Law Enforcement Services and Pre-Law, students will begin a digital program of study portfolio that documents their skills, understanding, and readiness to advance to the next course in the pathway.
