๐๏ธMessage from Academic Instructional Coach Nicole Feld
Hello, families!ย
JCPS is embarking on a reading and writing curriculum called EL Education. EL Education promotes discovery, inquiry, critical thinking, problem solving, and collaboration. Students own their learning within challenging and engaging lessons involving complex issues, text, and problems. The goal is to produce high quality work, foster proficiency in mastering knowledge and skills, and build character.
Each grade level is broken into 4 modules, each with 3 units. These units build content knowledge, then deep dive into text with โclose readingโ and finally synthesize learning through writing.ย
In the K-2 classrooms, EL also includes a Skills Block component which will be used to teach structured phonics lessons both in whole group on grade level and also differentiated small groups to meet student needs. Our assessments pinpoint exactly which skills our students need in order to read and write words.
Our teachers are engrossed in professional learning and are meeting regularly to analyze student data, decide instructional next steps and plan lessons.ย
Interested in learning more? Complete this short survey by Friday so I can set a date.
