🗒️Message from Andrew Terry

Can I just say, WOW! It is already February. Spring is just around the corner and our students are sailing through the school year in great fashion. Below you will find a lot of important information so please read through it carefully and know that we will continue to grow this weekly newsletter as well as our website to make it one of our key communication hubs for NCES. Continue to use this space for all things Norton Commons ES.

I watch way too many YouTube and TikTok videos when I can't sleep in the middle of the night. I came across this video that I had to share with the staff to kick off the school year. I share this with you all because I want you to know that you are sending your students to a school where the staff looks to hold this philosophy of " knowing your why" seriously. Most of us know our "what" but until you know your "why" the what has no purpose.

For each teacher, the" why" is different but what I can tell you is that the "why" is centered around a love, passion, and commitment to make your child a better person, an engaged learner, an innovative thinker, and a productive citizen.

Thank you for indulging my soapbox but know that it comes from a place of love and passion for what we do everyday here at NCES and that is to love on your kids!

Health Watch ❤️‍🩹

During this time of year, it is crucial to exercise extra caution, as various illnesses are circulating in our school. Take proactive measures to ensure the well-being of both yourself and your student by following these simple procedures:

If you observe any of the following symptoms: fever, chills, sore throat, fatigue, congestion, please take necessary precautions, such as staying home until symptoms subside or getting a COVID test. Additionally, consider visiting your pediatrician for testing for the flu and strep, which tend to be more prevalent during this time of year.

Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!

NCES Coed Soccer Opportunity

We are still in need!!! NCES students in grades 3-5 have the opportunity to participate on a co-ed indoor soccer team at Mockingbird Valley. For our students to participate, our team will need a volunteer coach. Once we have a volunteer coach, we can move forward in creating the team and registering for the league. Registration is due by March 8 so if we want to conduct tryouts and hold practice a couple of times before the start of the season tryouts would need to be held around the week of Feb. 12 or Feb. 19. This would leave time for practice 2-3 weeks before the start of the season.  Details on the soccer league are below:

Volunteers interested in coaching the soccer team should contact Mr. Terry at andrew.terry@jefferson.kyschools.us.
