🗒️Message from Assistant Principal Shawn Wilson
NCES Families,
On our first day returning from winter break, our students participated in our Act of Valor assembly. The Act of Valor for the month of January is perseverance. This is pushing yourself to work through challenges and obstacles; it is a personality trait that helps individuals overcome difficulties and achieve their personal best. One thing we know for sure is that we will all face challenges and obstacles in our lives. It is important for students to understand that they will face challenges, and they are capable of overcoming them. These challenges can include students facing difficult learning content, learning on days when they are tired or don't feel their best, and managing relationships with peers, teachers, and even parents. If students can understand that they will face challenges, they can work to develop their skillsets in navigating them effectively.
This past Monday, our NCES PTA held a skate party for our school community. We had an amazing turnout for the event, and it made a positive impact on our students, parents, and staff members. We thank our PTA leadership and volunteers and look forward to future events for our school community. For our famiiles who could not attend the skate party, we hope you will able to join us at future events. A calendar of events is available in the Parent Teacher Association section below.

💻❄️NCES Short-Term NTI Information
In the case we have inclement weather, we plan to hold Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) as much as possible. With advance notice, we plan to send students home with a device and the next steps on work. Teachers and staff will be available to support students via the digital platform or email.

Upcoming Calendar Fun 🗓️
Jan 12: Grading Period for cycle 2 ends. Report cards will be sent home on 1/24.
Jan 16/17: State BETA convention in Lexington for 4th/5th graders in the BETA club. We wish the students who are competing the best!
Jan 26: Dress Like a Word Day Parade. Students are invited to choose a word, "dress" like the word and parade the school in our special word parade. We love to celebrate English words and words from other languages our students know, so your student's word can be a word in your home language. Families are invited to the parade (time is TBD). Make it simple, no need to buy anything. ;) Teachers will brainstorm ideas with their class as well. This has been a huge hit in years past, so we’d love to see students enjoy participating again this year!
Watch this video for an introduction from Mrs. Feld explaining Dress Like a Word Day!
Dressing like any word is fine, but a pdf is attached with OPTIONAL ideas in case families need more inspiration.
Feb 1: 100th Day of School (Kinder families stay tuned for the ways your class will celebrate)
There was a mishap with the publication of the Literacy KNight date. It is Mar 7th: We invite your family to join us to celebrate reading and writing at 6:00pm. Doors will open at 5:45. You don't want to miss the fun, so mark your calendar!
🎉 Celebration 🎉
