🗒️Message from Family Resource Coordinator, Christy Case
Greetings Parents!!
I just wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself to those of you who are new to NCES or who may not be familiar with the Family Resource Center. My name is Christy Case and I have been serving as the FRC at Norton Commons (and Chancey) for the past 4 years. I am at NCES on Wednesdays and Thursdays, but please feel free to contact me anytime.
The FRC program strives to remove barriers to student learning. This may involve providing food to families from the NCES food pantry, providing clothes from our clothes closet, or making sure students have the school supplies they need to be successful. I provide referrals to community resources when parents are struggling financially or when they are not sure where to turn for assistance with a crisis they are encountering.
I provide special programs at school such as Cyber Safety classes for parents and students and the Speaker Series events which address a variety of mental health topics. I organize dental and other health clinics at the school, as well as provide referrals for other health services. I often post great resources and events that I come across in the community here in this newsletter. I hope that you will tune in to my posts!
I always look for parents to volunteer in the FRC office, organizing clothes, sorting donations, and assisting me with Blessings in a Backpack and other projects. I also welcome parent involvement in my Advisory Council. We meet every other month. Our next meeting is November 2nd. Please reach out if you are interested in serving in any of these capacities.
Just a reminder:
If you need clothes for your student from the Clothing Assistance Program (CAP), please complete this form.
If there are any questions about this information or if I can help your family, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
Have a great week!
Christy Case, FRC

❤️🩹Health Watch
During this time of year, it is crucial to exercise extra caution, as various illnesses are circulating in our school. Take proactive measures to ensure the well-being of both yourself and your student by following these simple procedures:
Encourage your student to wash their hands frequently.
Kindly remind them to cough into their elbow.
Prioritize adequate rest and maintain a healthy diet.
If you observe any of the following symptoms:
Fever
Chills
Sore throat
Fatigue
Congestion
Please take necessary precautions, such as staying home until symptoms subside or getting a COVID test. Additionally, consider visiting your pediatrician for testing for the flu and strep, which tend to be more prevalent during this time of year.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!
Basketball 🏀
The NCES Basketball team won the first round of the league tournament! They will be playing in the Semi Finals this Sunday, Feb 4 at 6:00 pm and if they win they will be in the championship at 8:00 pm. Both games will be played at MidAmerica East. Good luck!
⚽ NCES Coed Soccer Opportunity
NCES students in grades 3-5 have the opportunity to participate on a co-ed indoor soccer team at Mockingbird Valley. For our students to participate, our team will need a volunteer coach. Once we have a volunteer coach, we can move forward in creating the team and registering for the league. Registration is due by March 8 so if we want to conduct tryouts and hold practice a couple of times before the start of the season tryouts would need to be held around the week of Feb. 12 or Feb. 19. This would leave time for practice 2-3 weeks before the start of the season. Details on the soccer league are below:
Dates: March 16 - May 18
A fee will be required to participate.
Tryouts may be necessary to ensure an appropriate number of team members.
If we have enough students interested in participating, we may be able to have additional teams. Of course, a coach will be needed for each team.
Volunteers interested in coaching the soccer team should contact Mr. Terry at andrew.terry@jefferson.kyschools.us.
